Ghantakarna Chaturdashi is a local festival. People also denoted it as gathamuga chare. Mainly, newar people celebrate this festival. Somehow, this festival has a lot of impact in Bhaktapur city more than in other cities of Nepal. In this locally celebrated festival, People made out a figure of a demon. The name of that demon is ghantakarna. The local people burned it down in between the streets. After roaming a little around. People made their children pass over the burning fire too. In the belief that their children will not get trouble by any evil powers.
It is also said that ghantakarna ( a demon with bells in his ears) used to muddle the life of people. Somehow, the frogs thrive away that demon by pumping him into water. That’s why frogs are also fed on a special day after finishing the rice planting season in the newar community. There is also another belief that onward this day the number of mosquitoes will reduce. And, autumn starts.
