Most of the jatras celebrated in Bhaktapur has an interesting story. Among them, indra jatra also is bound with a darn. According to which, pulu kisi, the white elephant was sent by the king of lords, Indra to the earth to find maisasur. The reason behind searching maisasur is like this. Once, this devil maisasur kidnapped and diminishes the son of Lord Indra. That’s why he sent pulu kisi ( aerawat) to the earth to find him. But unfortunately, he didn’t succeed to find him and said that he still searches for that demon. As a result, the Indra jatra is celebrated by roaming throughout the city with the representation of pulu kisi. This is done to indicate that pulu kisi is still searching for that demon.
Indra jatra in Bhaktapur is celebrated in between September and October.
